Requirements

  • Preferred: Proficiency with CRAFFT, S2BI, DSM-5, and ASAM criteria.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with MOUD/MAT and withdrawal management for patients under 18.
  • Preferred: Research-standard written English.
  • Optional: Motivational interviewing training, crisis care experience, or youth SUD publications.

Role Title: Substance Use - Adolescent Addiction Specialist

micro1 is engaging Substance Use - Adolescent Addiction Specialists to assess adolescent substance use cases and provide clinical guidance on risk, severity, and recommended responses for a customer project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters.


Scope of Work

  1. Review clinical case material describing adolescent substance use and document thorough assessments of risk, severity, and intervention urgency.
  2. Apply established frameworks such as DSM-5 SUD and ASAM to stage severity and recommend an appropriate level of care.
  3. Evaluate the safety and clinical appropriateness of both proposed and alternative interventions, including pharmacological options when relevant.
  4. Distinguish between developmentally normal experimentation and clinically significant patterns of substance use in youth.
  5. Identify and flag withdrawal, overdose, and safeguarding risks that require escalation or immediate action.
  6. Develop written guidance that is actionable for non-specialists, clearly explaining the rationale and referencing relevant standards or guidelines.
  7. Compare and benchmark your assessments against peer input and published best practice to ensure consistency and rigor.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. 3–5+ years of post-certification experience working directly with adolescents impacted by substance use.
  2. Clinical specialty in addiction medicine, or child/adolescent psychiatry or psychology with a primary focus on substance use disorders.
  3. Active clinical license/registration in good standing, with recent (<2 years) adolescent caseload experience.
  4. Proficiency with adolescent substance use screening and severity staging tools (e.g., CRAFFT, S2BI, DSM-5, ASAM criteria).
  5. Familiarity with medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD/MAT) and withdrawal management protocols for under-18s.
  6. Research-standard written English (native, or IELTS 7.5+ overall/writing 7.0+, TOEFL 100+, Cambridge C1–C2, or equivalent).
  7. Motivational interviewing training, adolescent inpatient/crisis experience, and/or history of developing guidelines or publications in youth SUD (nice to have).
