About Prolific

Prolific started in 2014 as a platform for paid online research studies. Universities, companies, and AI labs post studies, and more than 300,000 active participants take them for pay. Prolific now also recruits language speakers, graduates, and experts such as doctors, accountants, and coders to train and test AI models. This AI work runs as studies in the normal Prolific participant account. Prolific posts each AI training role once per city, and this site shows each role once.

How hiring works

  1. Apply to an AI training job on Prolific's job board. Each role is posted once per city, and the text is the same in each post.
  2. Take a short skills test, often 10 to 15 minutes. Some expert roles also check your LinkedIn profile or your professional license.
  3. If you pass, Prolific invites you to make a participant account. Verify your email, phone, and ID, and add a PayPal account with the same name.
  4. AI training studies then show in your study list. Be ready for tasks that need up to one hour of work with no breaks.

What workers say

Good

  • Most reviewers say PayPal payouts are fast. After your first 4 cash-outs, they arrive at once.
  • Every study pays at least £6 or $8 an hour, and some expert posts list $150 to $180 an hour.
  • No minimum hours: every study is optional, and you choose when you work.

Watch out for

  • Some reviewers say Prolific put their account on hold or banned it with little explanation.
  • Support can be slow, and the number of studies changes from day to day.
  • Researchers can reject work, and rejected work is not paid. Some studies take longer than the time they show.

Frequently Asked Questions about Prolific

How much does Prolific pay?

Prolific has 88 open jobs on this site. The median pay is $30/hr, and most jobs pay $20–120/hr. Each job page shows its own rate.

How does Prolific pay workers?

Researchers set the pay for each study. Prolific's minimum is £6 or $8 an hour, and it recommends £9 or $12. When a researcher approves your work, the reward goes to your Prolific balance. Researchers have up to 21 days to review, and work that is not reviewed by then is approved automatically. You can cash out to PayPal when you have at least £6 or $6, once every 24 hours. Your first 4 cash-outs can take up to 72 hours. Prolific charges no fee, but PayPal can charge to convert currency. You pay your own taxes.

1. Apply to an AI training job on Prolific's job board. Each role is posted once per city, and the text is the same in each post. 2. Take a short skills test, often 10 to 15 minutes. Is Prolific legit?

Yes. Prolific is a London company founded in 2014. It went through Y Combinator and raised $32M in 2023, and Google and the University of Oxford use it. It pays through PayPal with no fee, every study pays at least £6 or $8 an hour, and it has 4.5 of 5 on Trustpilot from over 15,000 reviews. Some reviewers say Prolific put their account on hold with little explanation.

How do Prolific's AI training jobs relate to normal Prolific studies?

The AI training jobs are a way into the normal participant account. If you pass the skills test, Prolific invites you to join as a participant or a Domain Expert. AI tasks then show as studies, next to regular research studies, and each one pays a fixed reward. Prolific also invites some top participants to a 2-part AI Tasker test, which unlocks better-paid AI studies. You are self-employed, not an employee of Prolific.

What is an AI trainer job?

AI trainers help companies improve AI models. You review and rate model answers, write example answers, find mistakes, or record voice and video data. Experts in law, medicine, coding, languages, and other fields teach models how a professional thinks. Most of this work is remote, flexible, and paid by the hour.

Are AI trainer jobs remote?

Yes. Every job on this site is remote, and most have flexible hours. Some jobs accept people from certain countries only, so check the 🌍 location on each job before you apply.

What skills or degrees do I need?

It depends on the job. Generalist jobs need clear writing and attention to detail. Expert jobs usually ask for a degree or work experience in the field, such as a law license or medical training. Language jobs need native or fluent skill in that language. Coding jobs need real programming experience.
